Radon Solutions you can Trust ----

Justin Hollenbeck - Owner

My parents brought me to Summit County when I was three years old, and, like many of us, I fell in love with the character of its landscape and the personality of its community. With advanced degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and certified in radon services, I deeply understand the health risks associated to radon gas, and I hold the skills that are necessary to effectively remove radon from the homes in our mountain community. I will work vigorously so that others will feel safe in their home and their community.

We endeavor to form relationships built  on trust and dependability by providing an affordable, effective mitigation solution of the highest quality.

What we do best

We will use our expert knowledge of radon gas behavior and engineering to  test for radon in your home and comprehensively implement an effective mitigation system if necessary.

What is radon? -

You cannot see, smell, or taste radon. But it still may be a problem. Three key questions may cross your mind:

- Where does radon come from?

- What are the concerns to my health?

- How can it be removed?

RADON TESTING

RADON MITIGATION

Where does radon come from?   ---------

Radon gas is the result of the decomposition of uranium and radium. Once decomposed into radon, the gas can enter a building through the pores in the soil, driven by pressures beneath the soil and the vacuum-like environment inside the building. Elevated indoor radon levels ca generally  be related to to the underlying geology as rock type and soil particle size influence the amount of radon released from the soil.

While the underlying soil is the primary radon source, radon may also emanate from building materials or from water from an underground well. These sources of radon entry into a building are uncommon.

How can it be removed from my home?

Knowing how radon is entering a building allows one to develop an effective radon mitigation techniques.  These techniques are dependent upon a variety of factors including the radon source, type of building foundation, and the level of radon in the home. The purpose of radon mitigation is to reduce indoor radon levels to at or below 4.0 pCi/L as guided by the EPA. Three primary types of mitigation exist:

Active soil depressurization: The most effective technique where a vacuum is created beneath the foundation that is greater in strength that the vacuum applied to the soil by the structure.

Ventilation: A technique where additional fresh air is added to the home to pressurize the interior and to dilute the indoor radon concentration.

Water treatment: Radon is primarily emanating from the water supply, then this technique removes radon from water at the point of entry to the home.

What are the health concerns?   ---------

Radon exposure has been classified as a serious health problem by the US Surgeon General and several leading health organizations including the World Health Organization, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the American Lung Association.

Once radon enters the home it may decay further into charged radioactive particles known as radon decay products (RDPs). Due to their charged nature, RDPs may stick to lung tissue when inhaled, damaging the DNA of lung tissue and leading to lung cancer.

Radon is a chronic health concern and not an acute hazard, as the probability of radon-induced lung cancer is dependent upon the duration and concentration of exposure. Those who smoke are at a significantly higher risk of developing lung cancer if exposed to elevated levels of radon for a long period of time. If your home is found to have elevated levels of radon, it is important that you implement a mitigation system as soon as possible to reduce your risk for lung cancer.

First time homeowner, Breckenridge

"First time homeowner, couldn't have been better." "My wife and I moved to Summit County with our two small children, bought our first home, and realized that it contained high levels of radon! We hired High Country Radon. Justin was calmed our fears of the radon health risks and installed a system that same week. Couldn't have been better!"
"Very convenient! ... No need to meet him at the property." "Coming from a real estate background, I thought I would need to meet Justin at my property to let him in, so I was expecting a delay in the system installation. Fortunately, Justin's accessibility using Supra allowed him to enter my the property and install the system without my presence. Very convenient!"
